Bit of humor today.

Its aged a little, but here’s a great 3 minute video from the 1991 movie, Other People’s Money. Danny DeVito explains the timeless concept of value investing succinctly.

  1. I love this!

    From this great website I found this offering from The Small and Micro-Cap Screener on The Acqurer’s Multiple;

    FreightCar America, Inc.

    With 300 million liquidation value…… Market Cap 190 million ish

    That is the 30%+ margin of safety that Buffett / Graham trains / trained people to look for….. with a P/E of 4…

    This seems very cheap. I only worry about the liquidity of the offering. Very small business. Any thoughts?

  2. Mr. Hopkins,

    Thank you so much for the reply, plus sharing the article. May I ask a few questions?

    1. What do you think about the legal issue they lost in the first quarter and paid out $31.7 million? Any further issues like this that you see? In the 10k and 10q they talk about several issues.

    2. What signs do you look for with a stock to make sure the offer has proper liquidity in the market so you are not locked into the stock or have a horrible bid – ask spread?

    3. Did you find any reasons to see why total orders for railcars in the first quarter of 2016 were 150 units compared to 1,336 units ordered in the first quarter of 2015? They also had cancellations of another 646 units. Are they losing their edge? I am not experienced with Rail Cars so I am not sure what makes a very good or bad railcar besides its dependability and structural integrity.

    I really appreciation the information and article, thank you again!
